Staying on track

How can you make a difference? Spread the Reading Railroad message:  Read together 20 minutes every day, so that our children are ready to learn in school. Support the campaign, at work and at home. Talk about it with your colleagues, your friends, your neighbors. Because the fact is, we can all benefit from the results of this exciting journey.

Parents and caregivers benefit because they will enjoy some of the best times of their lives with their children. The hustle and bustle of daily living will always be here, but childhood is only temporary. Get on board! For you and your children, these are the good old days. Make every minute count.

Teachers benefit because the campaign promotes parental involvement and will produce children who come to school ready to learn. The campaign will also help fund special literacy training for kindergarten and first grade teachers.

Employers benefit because today’s kindergartners will enter Cass County’s workforce in as little as ten years. Reading is the most basic workplace skill, essential for a competitive workforce and healthy economic climate.

Taxpayers benefit because this program is a not-for-profit campaign funded with privately donated dollars, with very specific and accountable goals and measurements. The private dollars that fund Reading Railroad will help our community’s educators make the most of the taxpayer-funded resources available to them.

Churches benefit because this campaign promotes family bonding. Churches that promote the program can provide reading materials to their members and urge parents to incorporate them into daily family reading time.

Businesses and retailers benefit because the campaign is designed to get the whole community actively involved. There will be specific programs available that will enable businesses to have a highly visible role in the Reading Railroad.

Service groups and social service agencies benefit because Reading Railroad is a grassroots mission that will succeed only through collaborations and teamwork. The intent of Reading Railroad is to work through existing programs that make the most of everyone’s efforts.
